I found the following steps to building a website from scratch:
Start with a book like "HTML for dummies" or "How to build a web site in 21 days".
I recommend the following path:
1. Basic HTML
2. Basic Javascript
3. Basic image processing
4. Advanced HTML (stylesheets+dynamic html creation)
5. Advanced Javascript
6. Basic server side scripting with php or asp
7. Web server setup
depending on whether you have something specific in mind, items 4 to 7 can be reordered, and you may want to learn flash, silverlight, java, python, perl, C#, SQL, and much much more
Would I be better off doing the long route, or is Sitesell legit?
Forgot to ask, what is "basic image processing". Thanks in advance.

I am ready to pay to have a good website built, that will showcase my videomaking hobby. I have read that it is best to hire a freelancer who builds website vrs. paying a company to build it. I already have a trusty host, but where do I go to find these trusty freelancers?
Please point me to website builders who have portfolios so I can research them, even if you want to plug your own website. Thanks!

I’m looking to build a website for a band. I’ve searched for free website templates and I’m able to find them. The problem is I’m not sure how to use them. What’s up with the zip files? When I was younger all I had to do was copy and paste the HTML code and then work with it from there. How am I supposed to work with these "download and unzip" templates?

I learned (by myself) Dreamweaver8 and I can design basic website with links, ads, CSS, layers, tables, library items, photos, metatags, navigation bar etc…
I used the Gimp 2.2 for the title and buttons.
What do I need to learn next to be a professional developer and improve my sites ?
How do I go to the next level, what are the important things to learn?
Thanks !

Do search engines take the names of DOM elements like divs and tables into account. So for example would a div called "some keyword" be better than one called "body"?
